FemTALK Pacific: Destination Gender Equality - New Pacific Roadmap for Gender Equality and Women’s Human Rights

“We cannot miss the boat on meeting the sustainable development goals (SDGs) so the (new) Pacific Platform for Action is a smart move that builds on the 17 SDGs,” says Pacific feminist Noelene Nabulivou. “This is a roadmap guiding implementation. It’s visibilising the gaps and obstacles and supporting 2012 political pledge (of the Pacific Leaders Gender Equality Declaration). It’s very explicit about civil society and social development.”

Security of marine life is security for women and children in rural coastal settlements. As a young woman from a rural coastal community of Tawake, I see the women rely on marine life to put food on the table for their children, they are also harvesting marine products like seashells, fishing and beche-de-mer on small scale as their source of income.
