Our HERstory
femLINKpacific was established in 2000, emerging from the Blue Ribbon Peace Vigil and a direct link with women’s peace initiatives. During this crisis we provided a safe space to articulate and restored voices to communities, those held hostage, and their families throughout the coup of the same year.
From the struggle, a feminist media group emerged, linking the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 to the vision of FemLINK and our future representing women and their stories.
Since 2007, femLINK has developed and sustained a regional media and policy network on UNSCR 1325 (Women, Peace, and Security) which has promoted participation of rural women through our Fiji community media network.
From 2009-2019, our organization held the secretariat role of the Pacific network of the Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict (GPPAC). FemLINK has developed an important model of integrating feminist practice and the goals of UNSCR 1325 in a community of practice committed to advancing conflict-prevention and human security.
Between 2010 and 2012, FemLINK was instrumental in the development of the Pacific Regional Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security and continue to provide advice as well as advocate for national, regional and global strategies that ensure the full realization of these commitments.
